Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious cup on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
